OVERVIEW
This meeting is conducted under standard business practices and procedures.
Please join the Northwest Power Pool as we dive into Inverter Based Resources! Dmitry Kosterev, BPA will kick things off with an overview of his experience with interconnecting and operating inverter based resources, recent challenges and/or advances. Jens Boemer, EPRI will then provide an overview of IEEE P2800 as well as what the status and next steps are. Jose Cordova, EPRI will then lead a discussion of IEEE 1547-2018 including opportunities, adoption methods, and stakeholder coordination. Following these gentlemen will be an Open Roundtable to discuss things such as: new interconnection data/modeling requirements, operational experience (from both utility and generator owner perspectives), lessons learned, and any remaining knowledge gaps and thoughts about future challenges or goals.
Please note the bios below are truncated from their full versions:
Dmitry Kosterev, Ph.D., is a transmission planning engineer at BPA, where he has been involved in many transmission planning projects, sycnhrophasor project, modeling and validation. He served as a chair of WECC modeling work group, WECC Joint Synchronized Information Subcommittee, and NERC Load Modeling Task Force.
Jens Boemer, Ph.D., is Principal Technical Leader in the Transmission Operations and Planning group of the Power Delivery and Utilization Sector at the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI).
He leads EPRI’s strategic research on integrated transmission & distribution planning and operations, including projects on the grid integration of large-scale renewable and distributed energy resources with a focus on power system stability issues. His areas of expertise include interconnection guidelines, aggregated modeling of distributed solar PV for bulk power system reliability studies, and DER communications and control. Boemer has gained industry reputation for leading the timely revisions of IEEE Standards 1547 and 1547.1. He is currently leading IEEE P2800, an interconnection standard for bulk power system connected inverter-based resources.
Jose Cordova, Ph.D., is an Engineer/Scientist working in the Transmission Operations and Planning group of the Power Delivery and Utilization Sector at the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI).
He currently carries out research focusing on integrated transmission and distribution planning and operations. His projects include grid integration of inverter-based resources and distributed energy resources with an emphasis on bulk power system reliability. His areas of expertise include interconnection guidelines, power systems real-time simulation, machine learning, and solar generation forecasting. He is a leading contributor to IEEE P1547.2, the Application Guide for IEEE Std 1547™.
