Since our initial release on July 2, 2026, we've been busy adding new features. Here are the highlights.
Highlights
New home: the map now lives at www.wpptx.org.
Global coverage: many layers now span the entire globe. Use the layer pane's "USA / Global" dropdown to see which layers are global and which cover only the USA/North America.
3D terrain and buildings: tilt the map to see terrain and buildings in 3D, or turn on Hillshade relief. The 3D view now runs on MapLibre 6.2 for smooth performance on both mobile and desktop.
Live weather: NOAA/NCEP GFS weather forecasts with animated wind streams.
Your units, your language: a new File → Settings panel lets you choose US or metric units and pick from 15 languages.
Labeled aerial imagery: turn road and place labels on or off over the aerial basemap.
New layers
Live conditions: ODIN power outages by county, NWS weather alerts, and NEXRAD weather radar (US and Canada)
Hazard risk: FEMA National Risk Index by county, covering overall risk and 18 individual hazards
Energy and planning: WestTEC 10-Year Plan, BOEM Offshore Wind Leases, EIA Balancing Authorities, and Data Center Moratoriums
Boundaries: countries, states/provinces, US states, counties, and ZIP codes
OurGridFuture: Proposed/potential future transmission projects
Also new
File → Diagnostics checks what your browser and network can reach, which helps when something won't load
Data Credits lists the source and license of every layer
Better on phones and tablets: full touch support throughout the map
Better sharing: links now capture 3D views and restore the full map state
Other improvements and corrections
A new USGS Hydrography basemap; overhead vs. underground transmission lines and clearer HVDC lines; easier-to-find wildfire incidents with adjustable smoke opacity; saved drawings that reload automatically; per-layer download packs (including Shapefile); and many smaller fixes and refinements.
We sincerely hope you enjoy the latest updates!
